Hand dyed by Glennis Dolce of Shibori Girl Studios, this gorgeous, sensual, flowing ribbon is truly a work of art and it's so very visible in every piece. Glennis is a Master of Shibori, a method of Japanese dyeing method that involves, binding, stitching, folding, twisting and compression of fabric. This technique is applied to 4” bias cut 100% silk-satin ribbon, which is carefully pole wrapped, dyed and over-dyed multiple times to create stunning and vibrant color variations between the pleats and throughout the ribbon resulting in a three-dimensional work of art.
Both the color and texture are steam set according to tradition, rendering the color washfast and lightfast. The pleating is semi-permanent, so steaming will remove the pleating if you want just the beautiful shibori dyed patterns to show. Be sure to use the silk setting on your iron or steamer. Every part of the ribbon is uniquely lovely, and will add a richness to your work.
The bias cut ribbon is made using silk fabric and is cut in strips (bias cut) at a 45 degree angle to it's edge. The strips are joined to form a continuous "ribbon". So your 1 yard ribbon may have a seam somewhere in its length, however the dyeing is continous so any joins are not very visible. The ribbon edges are raw and will fray but that is part of the charm of using this ribbon for bead embroidery, ribbon flowers, arts quilts, embellishments and whatever you might choose to use it for!
We sell it in 18" lengths, if you want a continous piece 2 or more lengths long please contact us, we may be able to accomodate you.
