Deep in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest grows a special tree called the Tagua, or ivory palm. It produces an extraordinary fruit, the Tagua nut, which has been used for buttons, jewelry and carved objects since the 19th Century. Enjoy this Tagua product knowing that its purchase supports the employment of nearly 35,000 indigenous people. The income received from Tagua crops is a strong incentive to maintain the trees. This helps stabilize the Rainforest and, ultimately, World environments. A palm’s yearly harvest EQUALS ivory from one female elephant. Pendants are slices of nuts that are dyed with vegetable dyes, and as such are rather organic in shape. Shapes will vary, as will sizes. Generally an average pendant is 1" by 1-1/2" but the ycan be a bit larger or smaller. |
